About Focus Family Mediation

Mary Banham-Hall set up Focus Family Mediation in 1999. It formed part of the Legal Services Commission's pilot, phase III. Focus Family Mediation has worked at the forefront of family mediation for ten years, opening over 5000 files in that period. Mediation should be the first choice for most separating families.

Some of our mediators are trained and CRB checked, so they can consult directly with children. Then the children's wishes and feelings can inform parents' decision-making.

The sophisticated legal background of our lawyer mediatiors helps resolution of the most complex cases. Indeed, often results can be infinitely better than anything a court could impose - as the focus is on a good outcome. So, often tax-saving schemes can be worked out and implemented or commercially favourable decisions made. This is because all efforts are concentrated on achieving the best possible financial outcome overall - not on "winning", which usually means both parties lose out, because of the costs of fighting it out financially & emotionally.

About Focus Commercial Mediation

Focus Commercial Mediation was a natural development for Focus. Again, an experienced team of commercial mediators from a wide range of business backgrounds, deliver a high quality service, whether in the workplace or general commercial or civil mediation. As Civil Mediation Council (CMC) members Focus receives recommendations for the resolution of disputes in the court system from the National Mediation Helpline. The Commercial needs of businesses and individuals increasingly makes commercial mediation the only practical option for dispute resolution. Increasingly the legal route incurs more costs than can be justified by the value of the issue at stake.

Where there are disputes in the workplace and its is uncertain how these arose, then a more formal investigation or enquiry may be needed to get at the root cause. Staff will be interviewed and statements taken with recommendations being made for the resolution of the problem.

Whatever the dispute - whether commercial, family or both the resolution of disputes is the daily business of our team of mediators.
