Work Place Investigation & Enquiry

When workplace issues, problems and possible disputes arise it is often beneficial to use a fact finding procedure to ensure everyone feels heard and the root cause identified. Everyone involved then feels they have been listened to.

Investigation and Enquiry are usually used when there are a number of people involved – perhaps a team, department or region – who need to be interviewed and have their say and facts need to be established.

INVESTIGATION is a systematic process of questioning and interviewing to find the cause of the problem/issue. Following the Investigation a written report is provided to help the company/organisation plan a course of action and a way forward, which may be disciplinary, mediation or the more formal legal process.

ENQUIRY builds on the Investigation, using established resolution skills. Everyone feels heard and that their issues have been addressed.

This is a friendly, constructive and informal way of sorting out workplace issues, without the disruption and expense of legal positional bargaining.

Investigation and Enquiry can facilitate change.

HOW DOES INVESTIGATION/ENQUIRY WORK?

  1. Following an employer's initial enquiry, we will meet with the appropriate HR representative/s and or Line Manager/s to get an understanding of the issues and agree an action plan.
  2. Having identified who needs to be interviewed, we will conduct one to one and/or group confidential interviews.
  3. Your HR representative/s and/or Line Manager/s are informed of the anonymous findings and given a summary, and if agreed by interviewees, signed statements.
  4. Having established the root cause of the issue, if requested, we will outline solutions.  Alternatively, you may address any problems using internal processes and procedures.
  5. There is usually a follow up at a time scale agreed in advance and depending on the case,
