Career

Julian now has 20 years experience in conflict resolution. Before doing this full-time, his roles centred on development planning and construction project design and management, from small-scale to strategic, and he ended up sitting on Corporate Management Team. He also had a voluntary role to facilitate staff-to-management relations in the same organisation (for 600 staff) and was chief negotiator, mediator and coach for individual and corporate staff ‘issues’, which were many and varied. He now helps people from board level in listed multi-nationals through to small businesses and private citizens, using either mediation alone or his ‘blended’ conflict resolution service for deep or wide-scale issues.

These are the key recognitions he had gained:

• Acknowledged by CEDR to have undertaken one of the ‘Top 10 most significant mediations’ between 1990 and 2010.
• Peer-voted by CEDR mediators to be second among the Top 10 for innovation and progressiveness in approach to resolving disputes (i.e. his ‘blended’ approach).
• Selected by the Institute of Directors to be one of their experts in law and leadership, with a mediation specialism – published mediation article in their national ‘Director’ magazine.
• Presidential mediation panel member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
• Certified Mediator with the International Mediation Institute – recognition of ‘extensive experience’ and ‘high competency’ (initial accreditation was with the ADR Group).
• Professional Member of the Association for Coaching with experience to the level of ‘Master Coach’, mainly undertaken in change and conflict situations.
